In only three weeks Yule and Christmas will be here, and this year I plan to continue last year’s work and make as many homemade gifts as possible. Most people who plan this get started early, and by now would be close to done. But not me, I don’t even think about it until after the turkey has been served. Which means the next three weeks will be full of sewing, melting, mixing, and knitting to get things done.

My plan is to take pictures and share my craftfest here. Both to share the fun of homemade gifts and to keep myself motivated to do it instead of running to the nearest store. I’ve got a well-stocked craft supply area, but a long list of people to make gifts for. And only three weeks to do it. Yikes!

My plans so far are

Personalized soap. I’m thinking of making soap shaped like the first letter of the receivers’ names. I’ve debated back and forth on making soap from scratch verses re-purposing bar soap. Ideally I would prefer the first, but a lack of time and a lack of money means this year I’m going to go the easy way out. I’ll have to remind myself next year to start soap making in July.

Secret treasure books. My oldest son loves hiding little treasures where he can, so a secret treasure book like this would be a huge hit. I also know of one other person on the list who would love this. I just need to hit the used book shop soon and find some perfect titles to use. I’m hoping for Treasure Island or anything with pirates on the cover.

Tea cup candles. Candles sitting in a cute little tea cup. A great way to use thrift store finds and the left over chunks of candles.

Plush owls. I’m planning to make one for each of the kids to hang up. I might make a secret pouch on the back and slip a quarter or a piece of candy in each .

Plush alphabet magnets. I’ve been savings scraps of fabric just for this purpose. I’m going to make the whole alphabet for the toddler and just names for the older kids.

Plush baby block. The baby is getting a set of plush blocks to play with. And throw at her brothers. They’ll appreciate not getting randomly knocked with hard toys.

I’m also planning on making several batches of cookies, giving variety boxes to everyone. And knitting at least one good scarf to give, if only because I do not knit often enough as far as I’m concerned. This should cover most of the people on my list. I can only think of a few people left who I have no idea what to make for them. Anyone have a good suggestion for a hunter or a music addict?
